Vulnerable Children
(VC) Project
The initial development of this
project included the following and is now complete:
-
Develop
teacher-advisors in 200 target schools in Mpumalanga
in counseling skills and awareness of how they can
create “child friendly” classrooms
-
Train a team of
parents and community volunteers in each school in how
to run “Kids Clubs” after school to support these OVC
-
Run 1-week long camps
at DTC4L for vulnerable children using the volunteer counselors and
advisors to work with 50 needy children from area
schools at each camp
-
Assist schools to set
up Kids Clubs to support the orphans and vulnerable
children in their communities
The next stage is for
Reachout To Africa to
expand this vulnerable children's project into Mozambique
within the next 12 months and thereafter into
Swaziland and Zambia.

Learning Management System (LMS)
Project
This
project is designed to launch an LMS that will comprise
the following:
-
SCOPING: Check out what
else already exists from other providers,
complementary to the materials already generated
by DTC4L. For example, existing collections of non-profit management and development training
materials might offer up a lot of useful learning
materials to supplement what DTC4L is able to provide.
-
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT:
Generate more suitable training materials (and
digitalize existing materials in an earlier generation
of technology) to fill the gaps in the comprehensive
framework.
-
RESEARCH LMS TECHNOLOGY:
Prepare an “operational model” that will allow DTC4L
training modules and training materials from other
sources to be loaded into an LMS on a basis that is
financially viable and accessible in the
African and world context.

Mission in Africa Team (MAT)
During June/July 2009
Reachout To Africa is organizing a team of Canadian
volunteers to travel to Southern Africa to work at Camp
Orchard and with associated community groups.
This missions trip will
depart Canada during the third week of June 2009 and
return in mid July. In order to fund this project
team members will be required to participate in fund
raising events up until departure. We have developed an
interesting and exciting program that will give team
members an opportunity to experience life in Africa.
While they are there, team members will share their
skills and knowledge with local community people and
institutions.

Young Adult Sponsorship Program
As a result of previous
visits to Southern Africa by Canadian volunteers, a need
was identified for individual sponsorship support to be
secured for young adult youth leaders who wish to
continue their education into college diplomas and/or
university degrees. Given the reality of the severe
brain drain Africa and particularly Southern Africa is
experiencing, a number of Canadians expressed a desire
to financially support these individuals. Reachout To
Africa has
responded by setting up a system of administration to
facilitate the transfer of regular financial support to
these recipients. All funds contributed are assigned to
Individual recipients for expenses related to their cost
of education (school fees), clothing, school supplies,
and nutrition.
